This special section examines female neonates, infants, children, and young girls up to 21 years of age. Genital infections are diagnosed and treated with liquid culture following a special sampling from the vagina. Because of the very young age of the patients, special care is required, and specific treatment protocols are followed, that require local vaginal administration of medicines for the treatment of vulvo-vaginitis, alongside systemic therapy. The diagnostic approach of vulvo-vaginitis in pre puberty period, is completed by the regular testing for mycoplasma and chlamydial infections and in case of a positive result, the examination of the child’s family surroundings is recommended.

Common causes for patients to seek medical care in this department, are menstrual disorders, primary or secondary amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, areomenorrhea, or functional uterine bleeding in adolescence. Early and late puberty is another reason of interest, seeking diagnosis and treatment in this Specialized Department of our Clinic.
